Ulysses is probably the best novel of all time!
It caused a huge scandal when it was first released.
It was labeled dirty, blasphemous and unreadable, but today it is called a classic.
It is also called witty and compulsive to read but always controversial.
You may love it you may hate but it will move you one way or the other.
Ulysses takes place in a single day, 16 June 1904, also known as Bloomsday, it sets the characters and incidents of the Odyssey of Homer in modern Dublin and represents Odysseus (Ulysses), Penelope and Telemachus in the characters of Leopold Bloom, his wife Molly Bloom and Stephen Dedalus, and contrasts them with their lofty models.
The book explores various areas of Dublin life, dwelling on its squalor and monotony.
Nevertheless, the book is also an affectionately detailed study of the city.
In Ulysses, Joyce employs stream of consciousness, parody, jokes, and virtually every other literary technique to present his characters.
It is such a wonderful book writen by the one of the most talented writers to have ever lived.
Since publication, the book attracted controversy and scrutiny, ranging from early obscenity trials to protracted textual "Joyce Wars."
In 1999, the Modern Library ranked Ulysses first on its list of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century.
Many consider it the best novel of the twentieth century. It is powerfully written, a book for the ages.
